Saved Milady and how we planned to help the milady community, but it didn't really worked out
but at least now they have an option
This will be a bit of a casual post, last week news about Remilla hit coindesk, in the article we learned a lot of weird things. As it seems Remilla was involved with Miya an internet celebrity that was the leader of Kaliacc an abusive cult that groomed teenage girls into hurting themselves. Today the creator of Milady, Charlotte Fang acknowledged that she was indeed Miya and stepped down from the leadership of Remillia.
The overall floor of the Milady NFT went below 0.7 ether yesterday but now is back to over 1.3 ether as of this post. But there is more to it, the “pharma bro” Martin Shkreli notorious for purchasing the exclusive Wu-Tang album and being arrested for his hedge fund actives was released from prison and was gifted a Milady. His presence in the community has also contributed to its survival yesterday.
The entire Remilla X Miya story is really scary and upsetting, so cow will not be talking about it in detail you can take a look at the coindesk link at the top. But overall it’s obvious that Charlotte is not someone you wanted to be related to, especially after a screenshot of her saying the N-word came out.
The day before yesterday, May 19, my friend and dev April came to my dms with an idea, “let’s wrap the milady” she said. At first thought, it wouldn’t be a good idea… but later thought about it more and decided that wrapping miladys would give people the option to voice their concerns. So what is this about? Some time ago the Punks community was divided and people didn’t want to be part of it anymore although they didn’t want to sell their Punks, for that cause they coded wrapped punks, smart contracts that wrap your NFT, and convert it into a new Opensea collection. After wrapping you can have your NFT without belonging to the original community, also it frees you from paying royalties to the original creators, the wrap can also be undone and you can go back to the original collection. There are a lot of miladys that do not want to be related to Remilla and because of that, having the option to wrap the milady could be a relief.
April proceed to deploy the contract forked from the wrapped punks and made a simple website that you can find here.
Wrote this thread bout it, but since then we have decided to set royalties at 0%.
Overall the community was divided, some attacked cow relentlessly and others were skeptical, some gave overwhelming support. Overall it is all understandable, the wrapped miladys is divisive, but the community is already divided because of Remilla and charlotte. Overall this experience was tiresome and not really beneficial to cow in any way. But cow learned some things about how communities will act during a crisis. As promised the wrapper was launched yesterday and anyone that doesn’t feel like being related to Remilla can use it freely.
